The Lobbyist
The Lobbyist is a student run, faculty advised online collegiate newspaper. Through the use of WordPress the paper is consistently updated with recent campus and community events and news. Meeting once a week, students generate article assignments, are allowed flexibility in article choices and are encouraged to use these writing assignments to strengthen and hone their journalistic writing skills. Editors are chosen from within the student body to create a truly unique newsroom environment. By allowing the student body to generate article ideas the paper becomes a true extension of the Waldorf University life.
Waldorf journalists are fully engaged in the reporting experience by interviewing, writing and photographing the events and topics they choose to report about. The Lobbyist staff strives to maintain an accurate, current AP style and by using WordPress students are able to upload their articles directly eliminating a lag in publication time. The paper is updated as each article arrives providing a continuous news feed rather than a once a week update as with a printed paper. The online access also allows family and friends of students to maintain current knowledge of the Waldorf University life. Through the use of Google docs the students are able to self-track their progress in fulfilling their article assignments, editors are able to comment and guide reporters in editing needs and faculty are able to monitor for a consistent and positive learning experience. The Lobbyist is a continuously growing entity and strives to encompass the newest technology in creating a consistent, accurate and engaging collegiate newspaper.
